chaos

matt vinny and i were watching the game at our house, wondering, at what point do we get up and rush downtown?
They called the game, we got in the car and headed down to broad and shunk. from drexel, it was like the pied piper of people rushing down toward city hall. honking at everyone. hanging out the windows. shunk was like a concert, people were being lifted up, girls had 'titties' chants shouted at them, and while the one girl with the classy peacoat on was giving us blue balls, there was no shortage of less classy broads showing their tits. we trudged through, got back around and went for city hall. at this point vinny gets a call from his dad, saying hes at a party with the players as we speak. but only two tickets, oh well. they left and i went via matt's bike (say a prayer for mine, which was locked outside the wachovia spectrum) down market street toward city hall. people walking back were carrying uprooted trees and police street barriers.  what kind of scene was i walking toward? i saw an indian kid wearing a t-shirt tied around his waist- it looked like his pants had been forcibly removed.  out front of city hall, it was chaos. i knew had just missed something big, as riot police swarmed in from all directions.  a girl stood up next to me holding a dripping gash on her forehead, but she was directed to medical assistance as soon as she could. on the other side of market, massive planters were toppled over, trees were ripped up, bus shelters smashed in, every newspaper in every overturned box littered the street.  i met up with marcy and george and had some wine, because i was sober through this whole ordeal.  by 230, police had claimed the streets back. 30 or 40 bike cops had met on chestnut, and groups of 10 and 20 riot cops were scattered on each block.  i managed to loot one item: a carton of liquid egg whites, but shhh.  i got back to the 711 and my nigga bradford was there. i was afraid because he had been MIA, but after a short stint in jail, he was back, with more perspective and wisdom than ever.  and this morning, there was an incredible calm of the elements, and i went to work.  parade. tomorrow. noon. halloween.
